Crate Sizing
Crate Sizing & container Requirements:
There are four basic measurements which help determine correct travel container dimensions. (1) Length of pet from nose to start of tail (2) Height from ground to elbow joint (3) Width across shoulders and (4) Height of pet in a natural position (standing or sitting whichever is the higher) from ground to top of head or eartips whichever is higher. With this information we can guide you on the minimum container size acceptable for air transportation.
A simple transport box which most pet owners may use for vet visits etc may not meet IATA's stringent requirements. A pet relocation container must meet IATA standards (airline regulation). Any other travel box will be refused by the airline and in simple terms the following pet container requirements are:
The container must be large enough for your pet to stand up, turn around and lie down in a natural manner. Your pet will be in the container for some time and therefore it should be as comfortable as possible.
The container must be strong enough to protect your pet during transport, be secure enough to contain it and have sufficient ventilation on all four sides to ensure the air qualityin the container will not deteriorate.
The door must be secured in such a manner that it will not open accidentally or your pet cannot open it during handling and transport.
Your pet's nose and paws should not be able to fit through any ventilation opening or door mesh.
The container must have a water pot and for longhaul flights a food container accessible from the outside.
Fibreboard or wiremesh containers are not suitable for air transportation
